The Wiltshire Parish of Brinkworth lies on the eastern edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is one of the largest parishes in North Wiltshire and includes many outlying hamlets and working farms. The official size of the parish has led to the claim that Brinkworth is the longest village in England but despite its ribbon development, there is a distinct village hub consisting of the church, pub, local school and village hall, which unites the village. Situated high on a ridge overlooking a wide valley it is located on an ancient drovers’ route which links with Malmesbury to the west and Royal Wootton Bassett to the east. The surrounding land on all points of the compass offers some delightful rural walks in quiet, mainly unfrequented countryside.

This guide has been produced by the Brinkworth Footpath Group (BFG) which was set up on the initiative of a group of villagers in 2018 and since 2021 has been officially associated with the Brinkworth Parish Council. Its remit is to promote the use and enjoyment of footpaths, bridleways and byways, and to ensure access at all times to all users.

We hope you enjoy these walks and your visit to the Brinkworth area.
